Outdoor water intrusion
Tell the receiving provider whether water entered at a door, window, roof or through another opening. Outdoor floodwater needs a different assessment from an indoor supply leak. Mention debris, sewage concerns and whether water is still entering.
Window leak water damage
A wet sill, stained wall or affected floor near a window can require both entry-point repair and interior cleanup. Ask who will investigate the window or exterior seal, and who will handle wet interior materials. Cleanup alone does not repair the building envelope.
Sanitization after flooding
Ask how the source of water affects removal, cleaning and any disinfection work. A surface treatment alone is not a substitute for assessing affected porous materials or addressing retained moisture. The provider determines the appropriate work after assessment.
Record the event and the affected rooms
From a safe place, note when intrusion began and which openings and rooms are affected. Describe whether the problem follows rainfall or occurs during dry weather. This helps distinguish storm entry from an unrelated plumbing leak.
